Sorry, this entry is only available in German: Tag 1: Whakapapa Village -> Waihohonu Hut Wir haben unseren Van in Whakapapa Village geparkt. […]
To raise our travel budget, we needed to find a job, and what’s better than kiwi fruit picking in New Zealand? As we have to finance our sweet green van and all our NZ adventures, we definitely needed to find a job at one point. Fruit picking was on my “to do list” anyways and […]
Abel Tasman National Park
We spent our second day off in the Abel Tasman National Park. A lot of people have told us about Abel Tasman and its pretty sandy beaches. And to see it with own eyes was even better! The hike into Abel Tasman National park belongs to the great walks. It follows the coastline for about […]
The goal of our first day off was Mt. Arthur. Unfortunately, the weather turned out worse than expected. But we developed a great back up plan!
When we finished the TA, we thought it would be great to have a small hiking break. Therefore, we welcomed the opportunity to help out in the garden of a kiwi couple in exchange for food and accomodation. Staying with them close to Nelson, we did something useful and at the same time we could relax from the trail and explore the area around Nelson.
20.4. Windy day!
Today we started hiking from the Old Man Hut with the intention to reach the Starveall Hut. For his tramp we needed to cross a few peaks: Old Man, Slaty Peak and Mt. Starveall. It was a beautiful hike and we had good views at all times. Unfortunately, it was just quite windy and at […]
18.4. Attention, slippery!
The trail from the Top Wairoa to the Mid Wairoa hut is said to be very difficult and exposed. This was definitely the case – in addition it was quite slippery. Today we had decided to hike to the Tarn Hut. This meant 2x 4 hours DOC signs. And if they are not true, it […]
16.4. Day off at Hunters Hut
Relaxing and chilling out at Hunters Hut! Nice day off 😊 According to the forecast there were supposed to be a lot of rain falls for today, so we decided to just take a rest day and stay for two nights at Hunters Hut. I cut Timo’s hair, much to the amusement of Eiji who […]
The Richmond ranges are famous for their nice cute huts but somehow we always end up sleeping in a tent 😊 We packed everything to leave our spot. It rained in the morning, so it was a slow process. No mountains were in sight anymore. I think the trail was supposed to be really beautiful […]
We were glad to escape the school group and to head back to civilization! The weather was bad but still better than the last forecast said: There was no snow at the hut, only some in the mountains. As we were already so close to the civilization and didn’t have any difficult part ahead of […]
8.4. Travers Saddle
Starting from Blue Lake Hut we had another amazing day as we pushed on to go over the Travers Saddle before the snow comes in! We thought it would be a wise idea to keep on doing long days and get over all passes and saddles before the snow is supposed to come. The forecast […]
6.4. Freezing ❄
Cold morning! Everything was frozen when we started hiking. Nevertheless, it turned out to be a pretty sunny day on the trail ☀ Leaving Christopher Hut in the morning, we were surprised how cold it was. Everything outside was frozen. The sky was perfectly blue and no clouds were in sight. After about 15min of […]
