[:en]We spent our first day off in the mountains that we could see from Elsbeth’s property. We drove up a road to the trailhead of our hike. Up to that point the weather was quite nice. Unfortunately, the amount of clouds increased as higher we drove up the mountain. Reaching the parking lot, we didn’t have any views anymore. When we started hiking, it started raining a little bit. The trail was in a really good condition but the weather turned even worse. As we reached Mount Arthurs Hut, it started to pour down on us. So we seeked shelter in the hut and eat some lunch. When it didn’t rain as bad anymore, we continued hiking. Soon, we reached the trail that lead towards the peak of Mt. Arthur. We followed the trail for a little bit, basically just to find out that the weather and therefore the view won’t get better… Somehow we thought that we have already walked so many trails in the rain on the TA because we didn’t really have a choice. So, why should we do it now if there is no hope any good views anyways?
So we turned around and still did a nice loop track out of our hike. We eat our reminding food at the Flora hut. A few wekas were highly interested in our food. One went hiding underneath the picnic table and picked Timo in his finger! Timo and the weka were both very frightened…
Back at the car, we drove to Motueka. We stopped at the I-site and discovered a map that pointed out different attractions in the area. There was also a cave marked on the map. Google said, that this cave is not just a cave but also a huge hole in the ground. Yes, that’s what we wanna see! So we went to the cave and we weren’t disappointed. A short walk brought us to the huge hole. Apparently, it is possible to rappel down in into this hole and to walk into a cave system from there. Unfortunately, we still had our climbing equipment in Auckland…
We arrived late at Elsbeth’s place and were glad to have our own cottage and that we didn’t have to crawl into a tent 😊. And, we had our own hot shower and could cook in our own kitchen![:de]An unserem ersten freien Tag sind wir in die Berge gefahren, die man von Elsbeth‘ Haus aus sehen kann. Wir sind eine recht anspruchsvolle Straße bis zum Ausgangspunkt unserer Wanderung gefahren. Bis dahin war das Wetter super schön. Leider zogen die Wolken immer mehr zu, desto höher wir fuhren. Am Parkplatz angekommen, hatten wir schon fast keine Sicht mehr. Als wir losgegangen sind, fing es ein wenig an zu regnen. Der Weg war sehr gut, aber leider wurde das Wetter immer schlechter. Als wir bei der Mount Arthur Hütte angekommen sind, schüttete es. So haben wir erstmal in der Hütte unser Lunch ausgepackt und das Wetter ausgesessen. Als es weniger wurde, gingen wir weiter. Als der Abzweig Richtung Gipfel kam, folgten wir ihm kurz um dann festzustellen, dass das Wetter wirklich nicht besser wird und wir absolut keine Aussicht haben. Irgendwie dachten wir uns, dass wir auf dem Te Araroa Trail oft lange genug in schlechtem Wetter gewandert sind. Also warum jetzt, wo es sowieso keine Hoffnung auf Aussicht besteht?
Wir sind also umgedreht und haben aus unserer Wanderung trotzdem noch eine nette Runde gemacht. An einer weiteren Hütte, der Flora Hut, haben wir unsere verbliebenen Vorräte ausgepackt und gegessen was noch übrig war. Ein paar Wekas waren auch sehr an unserem Essen interessiert. Eins hat sich unter dem Picknicktisch versteckt und Timo in den Finger gepickt! Timo und das Weka haben sich ungefähr gleich schlimm erschrocken…
Wieder zurück am Auto, sind wir die Holperpiste zurück gefahren. Wir haben noch in Motueka gestoppt und ein wenig das Städtchen angeguckt. Dort in der Touriinfo haben wir uns eine grosse Karte mit Unternehmungen in der Gegend angeguckt. Da war auch eine Höhle eingezeichnet. Google meinte, dass diese Höhle nicht nur eine Höhle ist, sondern auch ein riesiges Loch. Oh ja, das wollen wir sehen! Also sind wir zu dieser Höhle hingefahren. Und wir wurden nicht enttäuscht, eine kleine Wanderung brachte uns zu einem riesigen Loch. Man kann sich wohl in dieses Riesenloch abseilen und dann in die Höhle gehen. Leider hatten wir zu dem Zeitpunkt noch unsere Klettersachen in Auckland…
Bei Elsbeth sind wir erst im Dunkeln angekommen und waren froh, unser eigenes Cottage zu haben und nicht im Zelt zu schlafen 😊 Uuuund wir hatten unsere eigene warme Dusche und konnten in unserer eigenen Küche etwas leckeres kochen![:]
